Aotearoa National Bowls 2021

Our Club played host to this tournament on Waitangi weekend. Its format is men’s and women’s teams of four. The tournament has been running since 1975. when it was a men-only event, with the women’s event introduced much later in 1984, and see’s players come from all over the country to compete.

From every angle it was a great success, This was only made possible by the large team of great Kaituao’s (volunteers) who stepped up and got things done. (Check back here soon for a full report on what it took for the club to host) .

And what a weekend for our ladies playing in the tournament; Sheila Tilyard, Christina Teiva, Dixie Copas and Rhianne Tippett from Te Atatu. They played the 1st day at Pt Chev winning 5 out of 5 games. Day 2 was sectional play and they then went on to win the next 2 games. Unfortunately they lost the 3rd by 4 points, knocking them out of playing in the semifinals. But what an awesome attempt, They should be proud of how far they went in the competition.

Our thanks to Wendy, Yvonne, Peter, and Phil W. for the photographs from over the weekend.

Bowls New Zealand live streamed both the semi-finals and finals from Pt Chev, which you can still watch:
