Paul was a stalwart of the Club having joined in 1992, he became a qualified coach in 2000 and has been club coach for over 20 years. He initiated and ran the West Winter Coaching Zone from 2006 – 2021 with many successes in the Campi, Canoe and ABCA Tournaments. Paul coached the Auckland 1–5-year women from 2015 -2018 with a 100% record, becoming Auckland coach of the year in 2016. His greatest interest has been in developing the junior bowlers and Paul would often sacrifice his own bowling events to watch, support and encourage his junior bowlers often entering tournaments with Juniors to further develop their skills. Paul has more recently been involved with the coaching and directing of blind bowls competitor Gerald Brouwers, and coaching Kelston High School students as they prepare for their secondary School Tournaments.

Paul was heavily involved with the Western Suburbs Bowling Association, serving at least 10 years as President, along with many years on Glen Eden’s bowls committee with five stints as Bowls Chairman between 2002 and this 2023, running many large tournaments where he would forego playing himself so that he could put his efforts into a successful tournament. He also looked after many of the social groups who came to the club for work or family events on the green, making it a fun and enjoyable experience for them, with his sense of humour to the fore.

Other areas of the club where Paul has had an involvement has been helping the cash up crew two mornings a week and visiting some of the older members when they have been unwell.

A very good bowler in his own right, Paul attained his Gold Star & Bar (10 wins) in 2016/17 and has 11 Championship wins over the full range of disciplines, pairs, triples, fours, and mixed pairs.

There are not many who have given their time so freely over so many years for the betterment of their club and for bowls in general.
