With some dreadful rainy weather during the week leading up to the big day some cowpokes were worried we might get flooded out, but the worst of the rain passed over an hour before the start and the green full of teams from all over Auckland weren’t of a mind to let a bit of drizzle stop them from enjoying a full day of competition.

Folks rode in from Rocky Nock, Royal Oak, Mahurangi, Papakura, Howick, Orewa, Carlton Cornwall, Titirangi, Te Atatu, East Tamaki, Clark’s Beach and Glen Eden; and if they weren’t friends at the start they were by the end of the day.

Instigated in 2018 by Sammy Sattler, the Great Western Showdown tournament provides an opportunity for year 1-3 players at the start of their bowling career to compete against contemporaries without any fear of facing any veteran bowl-slingers.

The Consolation prize was drawn by one of our Sponsors from Barfoot & Thompson, Robyn Rule & Sue Allan. The lucky team were Lennie Lau, Sam Nilson, & Mike Hedges.
Sam also took out the best dressed costume prize.

3rd: Mike Burns, Rebecca Brosnan and Tracey (Royal Oak)
2nd:Richie Rogers, Fuaemu Akaruru and Thomas (East Tamaki)
1st: Dave Cowley, Graham Lewis and Wade Brearly (Howick) who won last year as well.
